Game Recap

After a long snow week and with no practice, the lady Rines came out and played aggressive on the defensive end. There were moments in the game where players were driving on the floor for loose balls and sprinting from top of the key to get steals from the block. The coaches believe that the team can only move up from here and are very excited about the direction the team is headed. ” we see the light, the girls are understanding what we expect from them” – Coach Thomas
WM was led by Brittanie Wray with 12 points, Rokhyatou Sidibe with 10, Shawna McDougall 9 , and chemmel and heaven with 2 points.

Meet Recap

Divisionals was an amazing meet for the Wolverines! Both the boys and the girls WON the division and beat out the other six teams for first place. The Wolverines compete against all six teams, the top three from each team per event. All of the swimmers and divers had amazing races and performances. Every member of the team stepped up to compete, to race, and to win!

Some of the highlights:
On the boys’ side, Sawyer Conklin dropped four seconds in his 200 IM, sneaking into the top heat so that Nahom Michael, Peter Orban, and himself all placed in top six for that event. Matthew Hase had two more personal bests this meet, dropping more time and placing high in both the 100 fly and the 200 free. Brennan Guilds, Matt Hase, and James Naulgan (who dropped 20 seconds!) were all placed in the top six in the 100 fly. Lowell Brophy dominated the 100 free, winning it by a body length. Following him, Sam Gates and Nathan Wright dropped time in their 100 free to also place in the top six. In the 500 free, Sawyer Conklin dropped fifteen seconds off his time to place fourth overall. Peter Orban won the 100 back by a body length, followed closely by Nathan Hurt, who also dropped three seconds in the event. Nathan Wright, Brennan Guilds, and Chase Soghomonian dropped time in the 100 breaststroke, Pushing Nathan and Brennan into the top six ranking, scoring major points for WM. The boys 400 free relay consisting of Peter Orban, Nahom Michael, Sawyer Conklin, and Lowell Brophy won the race to end the meet off on a high note.

On the girls’ side, Elena Rodriguez, (dropping six seconds), Khava Tasrni, and MacKenzie Allen scored in the top six in the 200 free. Madison Aguilar, Erika Wolf, and Caitlyn Rishell all swam very fast in the 50 free, again placing in the top six. Fiona Franke (dropping three seconds), Khava Tsarni (dropping almost two seconds), and Elena Rodriguez all had superb swims in the 100 fly, scoring lots of points for the Wolverines. Lauren Flandrau dropped three seconds in the 100 freestyle, putting her in the top eight along with Anona Orban and MacKenzie Allen. Angelique Ramos stepped up for the team and swam a last minute 500 free alongside Julia Crews, showing their Wolverine team spirit. The 200 free relay consisting of Khava Tasrni, Mackenzie Allen, Caitlyn Rishell, and Naina Tasrni dropped four seconds from their seed time, allowing the team to make the Metro cut. Madison Aguilar dropped another two seconds in the 100 backstroke, moving her up in places to score more points for the Wolverines. Gabi Poggy, Caitlyn Rishell, and Naina Tasrni scored in the top eight in the 100 breaststroke, all seeded in the fastest heat for the event, proving they deserved their spots there. Finally, the girls 400 free relay consisting of MacKenzie Allen, Erika Wolf, Anona Orban, and Khava Tsarni won the final race of the meet by many, many yards.

On the early morning diving competition, Josie Moore placed 3rd overall for the girls, and Nahom Michael and Nathan Hurt placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Some of the Wolverines will go on to participate in the next championship meet, Metros. Peter Orban, Lowell Brophy, Khava Tsarni, and Naina Tsarni all made individual cuts for this meet, along with two relays from both the boys and girls teams.

Again, another congratulations to the Wolverines on an amazing season so far! If you see any of these athletes, please congratulate them on an amazing divisional meet, and an impressive season!

Game Recap

After a week of no practice or school due to the worst winter storm since the early 90’s, the Wolverines definitely showed signs of major rust on Saturday afternoon. Clarksburg jumped on WM early and lead for the whole game. Each quarter WM put together little burst of improvement but could never put a full quarter of good solid basketball together. Markel Grant showed great promise inside with 10pts and a great defense, while Kendale Sewell lead all scores with 19pts. Sophomore Jamie Castillo dropped in four 3 point field goals and the Wolverines shot 11 for 11 from the free-throw line. Mohammed Ashraf scored 11 off the bench.
